Blurb to Severine

The year is 9045 and the Nations control almost everything in the universe. They have brought order to many planets and cultivated others, but behind closed doors they’ve raided and pillaged the planet’s resources for their own gain. She is one of the many children who have been ripped from their home for their selfish cause. Trained at a young age, she was developed into just what the Nations hoped to accomplish. A perfect weapon. But when control is lost and the weapon goes rogue, the Nations learn firsthand just what they’ve created and just what their weapon will do for her freedom and for a family she can never forget. He is sent to find her. Another trained and burned by the Nations, Byron Suthland is hired to find the weapon, only he doesn’t want to find her for them. He wants to find her for himself and bring back a woman, not a weapon. Knowing she can kill him instantly means nothing, but caring about her means everything.

Severing

Excerpt

“And where are you going to go?” “Home.” “Do you even know where home is?” “No, but you do and you’re going to be kind enough to give me the information.” “It isn’t that easy.” She lost her temper and walked right up to him, bringing the gun she had tucked behind her right out. He didn’t fight her when she put her hand up to his throat, shoving him back against the wall, her gun now pressed right between his eyes. “What are you going to do, Severine?” Byron asked. “Shoot me?” “If I have to.” “Then what kind of information will you get?” They had a kind of standoff. Both refusing to back down or look away. However, Byron made a move, one she wasn’t expecting. His hand came up slowly, his body didn’t move. With the back of his hand, knuckles only, he touched the side of her face. Severine moved back. “What are you doing?” She frowned at him. “Something I think hasn’t been done to you in a very long time.” “Don’t do that.” His hand went back to her ear and into her hair. “But I want to do this.” When his face began to lower down to hers and both of his hands moved to her waist, Severine changed the position of the gun. She now pressed it up under his chin. “I can shoot you and keep you alive.” His face was mere inches from her own, lips so close she could feel his breath upon her own. “And I think this will be well worth getting shot.” They touched. His lips touched her own gently, softly. She had never been kissed before. The only type of touching she’d been subjected to had always resulted in pain of some kind. Yet this wasn’t painful, but it confused her none the less. He didn’t do much of anything else either. In fact, if she wasn’t mistaken, she thought he was trying to show her how to kiss. Why she let this happen, she couldn’t answer. But Severine did give in mostly due to her curiosity. She wanted to know what this felt like. What it was like to be held by another and not made to suffer for it. However, before anything more could go on, the gun she held under his chin was taken from her hand and the light kissing simply stopped. He pulled back enough to look her once more in the eye, one arm still around her. Keeping eye contact with her, Byron uncocked the gun, let it drop with his finger still on the trigger so it would flip butt first back to her. “I’m not going to hurt you, Severine. Ever. And I will help you find what you need, but not with a gun at my head. Next time, just say please.” She took the gun from his hand, he let her go, and moved around her toward the steps, taking them two at a time up, leaving her right where she stood.

Broken Beauty by Chloe Adams

BROKEN BEAUTY by Chloe Adams

SYNOPSIS:

**Contains graphic content involving the sensitive topic of rape and its aftermath. Not intended for teens under 18.**

Sometimes bad things happen to beautiful people.

When socialite party girl Mia Abbott-Renou wakes up in a garden she has little recall of the previous night -- except that she is naked...hurt...terrified. Not only has she been raped, but she knows one of her assailants: the son of a wealthy politician who happens to be her own father’s political ally.

Mia wants and needs justice. Except this privileged boy has an alibi and her father forbids her from going to the police. It’s a critical election year, one that his party might lose if his image as a doting father is soured due to Mia being labeled a lush or worse, promiscuous.

Devastated at not having the support of her family, Mia finds herself in a tug-of-war with her conscience over what to do, especially since she can’t remember exactly what happened that night. Worse, the men who attacked her have hurt several other girls, and Mia may be the key to stopping them.

Mia tries to forget, until the unthinkable happens, and she’s left reeling once again until she realizes that her strength will bring healing and unlocking her memories will bring justice.

MY REVIEW:

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Mia is a high school student who can have anything she wants. She comes from a very wealthy family and her parents aren’t around much at all. She decides to go to a party alone instead of attending a fundraiser. That party changes Mia’s life forever.
After drinking and being drugged Mia wakes up in a garden and has been rapped and beaten. She remembers one of her attackers, but her daddy will not let her tell the police because he is the son of a wealthy politician and her daddy’s ally. Mia doesn’t know what to do because she doesn’t want him to get away with what he has done, but she doesn’t want to ruin her dad’s career either. After finding out, that not only has her attackers done this to her, but several other girls as well. Mia goes through a battle within herself trying to decide what she should do.

Dom is one of the cops that is at the scene when Mia is found. He wants to help her and get the parties responsible for doing this to her. Mia has never had anyone in her life that has cared or protected her. Dom’s character is phenomenal; you can’t help, but like him. You fall in love with how he goes out of his way to help Mia. He listens and goes out of his way to try and make her feel better when everything looks so dark to her.

Chloe Adams does an amazing job writing this novella. Broken Beauty deals with very serious and controversial issues. This novella is a sad book, but I felt for Mia and was cheering her on to do what she needed to do and be able to find herself and not let this situation destroy her. As a reader I was very connected to the characters and can’t wait to read the other novella’s to find out what happens to Mia.

MY REVIEW:

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

4 out of 5 Stars!!!

Allie Scott has had a very difficult last year. She lost both her parents at the same time and if it wasn’t for her best friend, Allie would have stayed a recluse and withdrawn from everyone and everything in her life. A year later, Allie has decided that she needs to find herself and is taking a weeklong vacation to Miami, Florida…alone. However, while trying to start over fresh and finding herself, Allie runs into the sexiest man she has ever laid eyes on, Damien Wales.

Damien Wales is in Miami for business and is instantly drawn to Allie. Most woman would do anything to get with Damien, but he has to work to gain Allie’s trust and to become comfortable with him. They immediately have a strong and intense connection that takes both by surprise. Damien is not about to let Allie run away from him.

Allie is very confused by her feelings for Damien in such a short period of time; and at times she has a hard time processing everything that is happening. Damien is overly protective and very concerned with Allie’s safety, which she has a hard time understanding. The closer Damien and Allie get the more of Damien’s past collides into his present which puts Allie in danger.

Allie finds herself being very honest and open with Damien, but knows that he has been holding back from her. Will Damien’s lifestyle and past destroy their relationship or will nothing be able to keep them apart. Will Damien be able to keep Allie safe or will he be unable to protect her from the threat?

I had mixed feelings at the beginning of this book. At first, I had a hard time getting into the book. It just started a little slow for me. However, by the middle of the book I was completely invested in the story and the characters. By the end of the book I was dying to know what was going to happen next.

I have a hard time when characters in books just meet and instantly are madly taken with each other. I believe in the intense feelings you can have, but to me that is more lust than anything. I did like both characters and I thought the build up to them was well written. Their relationship moved a little fast in the beginning for me, but I was glad to see it stretched out and the level of actually getting to know one another there was in the book.
I did enjoy all the twist to the characters and the different sides to them. I did not see a lot of that coming. I love not being able to foresee things in books. Once all their skeletons were out of the closet the book became very interesting !!

I love suspense being thrown in with a romance story. And alpha males are so incredibly sexy!!! I absolutely loved how Allie handled Damien when he was trying to boss her around. It was believable and she was not about to allow him to order her around or walk all over her. Not only did I love Allie and Damien; I also adored Allie’s best friend, Sam. She cracked me up and reminded me of my best friend. I loved their banter and how they would do anything for one another.
Allie is a strong woman who isn’t in your face, but deals with things in her own way that make people slow down and think about the situation instead of just reacting. She is level headed. Damien, on the outside seems to have it all, but a dark past has caused him to withdraw and keep people at an arms length…until he saw Allie.

I loved the twist and turns this book has taken. It will keep you turning the pages to try and solve this puzzle. I like that when you believe you have it all figured out there is another twist that completely throws your conclusions out the window. There is a cliffhanger to the book, but in a way that gets you excited to read the second book.

Kristin Mayer did a great job writing “Trust Me”; the plot and character development was wonderful. I am excited to read the second book in the series, “Love Me”. My only problem with “Trust Me” was the slow beginning, but stick with it and you will really be glad that you did!!

A Beautiful Mess by T.K. Leigh

A Beautiful Mess by T.K. Leigh

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

T. K. Leigh, otherwise known as Tracy Leigh Kellam, is a producer / attorney by trade. Originally from New England, she now resides in sunny Southern California with her husband, dog and three cats, all of which she has rescued (including the husband). She always had a knack for writing, but mostly in the legal field. It wasn’t until recently that she decided to try her hand at creative writing and is now addicted to creating different characters and new and unique story lines in the Contemporary Romantic Suspense genre.

When she’s not planted in front of her computer, writing away, she can be found running and training for her next marathon (of which she has run over fifteen fulls and far too many halfs to recall). Unlike Olivia, the main character in her Beautiful Mess series, she has yet to qualify for the Boston Marathon

SYNOPSIS:

What happens when you lose everyone that promised they would always be there for you? How can you protect the few pieces of your shattered heart that remain?

Olivia Adler is a woman with a troubled past. After losing her parents at the young age of six and being raised by an uncle who she lost years later, she refuses to get attached to anyone, including friends. For the past decade, she has been able to remain unattached to any man, too worried about losing someone to get too close. Until Alexander Burnham walks into her life one night and changes everything. But he has issues of his own. And he’s keeping a secret that could change everything. Will Olivia let Alexander in enough for him to get close and protect her from a force threatening her very existence, or will she push him away, scared of letting Alexander in, in order to protect her heart?

A Beautiful Mess is the first installment of a three part series sure to captivate the heart with a story of secrets, courage, and love.

Recommended for ages 18 and up due to sexual situations, language, and mild violence.

MY REVIEW:

5 out of 5 stars!!!

“A Beautiful Mess” by T.K. Leigh is such an amazingly written story! The story keeps the reader sucked in and invested in the characters from the beginning all the way to the last page. T.K. Leigh did such a phenomenal job writing this story line and has the reader’s emotions going from smiling from ear to ear to wanting to smack the characters. I felt hopeful, giddy, happy, angry, frustrated, stressed, but I also laughed and found myself rooting for everything to work out for Olivia and Alexander. The characters are realistic and draw you into them. They make mistakes that will have you yelling at them, but at the same time have your heart breaking at the situation that they are in.

Olivia doesn’t do relationships, of any kind really. Letting people in is too hard for her since she lost both of her parents in a car accident when she was six years old. Olivia was in the car at the time of the accident, but because of a head injury she has no real memories of her parents or her life before the accident. At 21, Olivia then lost her guardian which caused her to run because she couldn’t deal with losing everyone in her life; so she keeps everyone at an arms length. After running for several years Olivia decides to move back to Boston. After breaking it off with another fling at the bar, Olivia has to go back to work to pick up a few things before heading home. Simone is waiting on her and tries to attack her. Olivia is able to get away, but while running to find help she runs into Alexander.

Alexander Burnham runs a security company. He is woken in the middle of the night after having a dream of the young girl who he couldn’t save when he was younger. Alexander was six when his best friend died. While walking to clear his head he hears someone screaming for help while being chased by a man. After saving Olivia he goes to check to make sure that she is okay and comes into contact with those same brown eyes that have haunted him for years. Could this girl be his best friend? But she died when she was six.

Similarities or not the sparks between Olivia and Alexander are instant. However, with Alexander’s secrets and Olivia’s insecurities a relationship between the two of them could be difficult. Will they be able to move past their past and be able to open their hearts to each other or will their past destroy any chance of a relationship?

I absolutely love love love this book! I couldn’t get enough of it. I love when books can grab and pull me in and make my emotions run rapid. Mr. Burnham is everything you can want in a book boyfriend and more. T.K. Leigh is such an amazing writer! This is a must read series!! You will not be disappointed. “A Beautiful Mess” is such a great story about love, friendship and suspense. You will not be able to stop reading once you start.

Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content and violence

Without Doubt

WITHOUT DOUBT by CJ Azevedo

Book 2 in the Without Series

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

CJ has lived all over the state of California, Central, South, North and finally landing back somewhere in the middle. She married the boy she fell for when she was only eleven years old and together they have two beautiful heathens. CJ obviously loves to read and write. She can watch the Giant’s play baseball but hates football. She bakes when she’s sad, runs when she’s mad and dances when she’s happy (even if she cant find a rhythm to save her life) If you’re looking for her and can’t seem to find her, look on the staircase, it’s her favorite spot to read.

SYNOPSIS:

Ava Sterling is tough and the most straight laced girl you will ever meet. Her family and her past have managed to alter her future permanently and she has no desire to allow anyone else into her life or her heart for fear of rejection or further altering. Ava is alone in the world with the exception of the grandest responsibility she did not create on her own but on her own she will carry for the rest of her life.

Declan James is a MMA fighter, party all night kind of guy. Responsibility is nowhere to be found in his life or so he allows everyone around him to believe. Coming from wealth and a carefree lifestyle, Declan gets what he wants, always. And what he wants is Ava. In his pursuit of getting what he wants, Ava in his bed, his plan changes quickly without his consent. Against his plans of being the next hot bachelor to cross the tabloids as he makes his way to being the Ultimate Light Heavyweight Champion, Declan falls in love. He falls in love without hesitation and without doubt.

Neither Declan nor Ava are aware that fate has inconveniently intertwined their lives forever. Will they be able to survive the aftermath of the truth?

EXCERPT:

I start restocking the beer fridge when I get the feeling someone is watching me. I turn slowly to take in the people in the bar and check for anything suspicious. When my sight reached the back of the room, I found the set of eyes that made me stir. Declan. Deep blue-green eyes set just below dark furrowed brows. The piercing in his right brow shone under the low overhead lighting above his table and made me want to take it between my teeth. Our gazes connect and he doesn’t look away. The girl is still sitting on his lap and running her skanky hand up and down his thigh. She has no idea that he’s been staring at me for at least the last thirty seconds. Not being able to handle the stare contest any longer, I smile at him. He doesn’t smile back and it really doesn’t bother me. It probably should, but I have a feeling that it’s not a negative emotion that makes him continue to stare blankly.

MY REVIEW:

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ava has more responsibilities than most 22 year olds. She is going to school and raising her sister’s daughter. Dating is not the top of Ava’s priorities; however Declan James wants her and is determined to have her. Declan is about to change Ava’s life whether she wants him to or not.

Declan is a MMA fighter and is not into the dating scene. All women want him and he doesn’t have to try at all. However, Ava changes everything for him. He can’t stop looking at her. Ava refuses to go out on a date with him. He never dates and the only one he wants to date doesn’t want him.

Declan finally makes progress with Ava to only have her sister drop a bomb that could tear them apart. Ava and Declan have a lot more now that they have to work out if they want to be together and live happily ever after? Can they work everything out or will Ava’s sister’s news break them apart?

Without Doubt is the second book in the Without series by CJ Azevedo, but can be read as a stand alone. This is actually the first book I have read of CJ Azevedo’s and it will not be the last. I was not confused and followed the book like if it was the first book. I can’t wait to read more of her books. The reader is able to connect and feel what the character feels and what they are going through. I can’t wait to read more of this series. I was pleasantly surprised and am now a fan of CJ Azevedo’s!!

MY REVIEW:

I was given an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

5 stars!!!

T.K. Leigh you have just blown my mind. I don't know where to begin. After reading "A Beautiful Mess" I was dying to read " A Tragic Wreck" and find out what was going to happen with Alexander and Olivia; hoping that I would not be let down or disappointed. And let me tell you I was neither let down nor disappointed. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the third book. I could not put it down; I had to know what was going to happen next and get answers.

"A Tragic Wreck" picks right up where "A Beautiful Mess" ended. As we learned in "A Beautiful Mess" Alexander and Olivia are not together. Olivia has run to a beach in Florida wanting no-one finding her. Whereas, Alexander is in Boston, hurting and wanting to find Olivia. However, since the trail has gone cold Alexander is dealing with his pain and trying to move on the only way he knows how...reverting back to his old ways, no strings attached meaningless sex.

Olivia is trying to forget her life since meeting Alexander, stop all feelings and get back to her simple, uncomplicated life where she can't get hurt. However, she can't stop thinking of Alexander and then a sexy surfer refuses to allow her become a recluse or stop feeling. After months of having no clues to where Olivia had ran away to Alexander finally got a clue to where she may be hiding. Heading to Florida, Alexander is hoping he can convince Olivia to come home with him, remind her of good they are together, and how much she wants him.

Alexander still doesn't know the threat after Olivia, but he is determined to protect her no matter what, but will he be able to tell her the truth?

"A Tragic Wreck" will take you on emotional ride throughout the entire book. I laughed, got angry, was heartbroken, frustrated, stopped up with the romance, and drawn into the suspense. T.K. Leigh has an amazing way with words that make the characters seem so real and draw the reader into the story. It takes an amazing writer to be able to make a reader fall in love with the characters and feel like it is real and not fictional. I found myself getting so angry I wanted to yell at the characters because of their decisions, but then also swoon and fall in love with them. I loved how they expressed their feelings and how deeply their feelings ran. I couldn't be helped bring sucked in to their story and wishing for everything to work out and wanting then to be together. I wasn't then to defeat all the people that are trying to keep them apart and destroy Olivia's life.

The suspense kept me biting my lip and stressing about what was going to happen next. I love that a book can bring out so much emotion in me. I can't wait until I am able to read the third book and find out what happens next for Alexander and Olivia. There is so much that "A Tragic Wreck" sets into motion and I can't wait to find out how everything works out for this couple and get all the answers that haven't been discovered yet.

T.K. Leigh did an amazing job writing a second story in a series that not only didn't let the reader down, but is able to suck the reader in even more than they were after reading the first book. This is a must read book and series. You will not be able to put this book down once you start and you will not be disappointed. There isn't anything I was disappointed in our can complain about so this book is definitely a 5 out of 5. I just wish I could give it now stars that's how much I love this book!
